HOW GENIUS Hyperhidrosis WORKS
The Genius Hyperhidrosis Treatment effectively targets the axillary eccrine sweat glands located approximately 3.5mm below the skin’s surface. Genius delivers radiofrequency through fine needles set to a depth of up to 4 mm on its US label, heating the layer where the sweat glands sit. Its insulated needle technology minimises heat transfer to the skin’s upper layers, enhancing safety. The device's label sets no skin-type limit, but darkening of the skin after treatment is reported more often in darker skin, so we assess your skin first and use conservative settings.
What the evidence says: the published studies of radiofrequency microneedling for sweating cover the underarms only, none of them used Genius, and in two comparisons botulinum toxin injections reduced sweating more. How long does a Genius treatment session last?
A typical Genius treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis takes about an hour including the numbing time.
Is the Genius hyperhidrosis treatment painful?
To enhance comfort, a numbing cream is applied before the treatment. Most people find the procedure quite bearable, experiencing minimal discomfort.
Who should consider the Genius treatment for excessive underarm sweating?
Individuals diagnosed with excessive underarm sweating who haven’t seen results from other treatments like antiperspirants or medications are ideal candidates for Genius treatment.
What kind of downtime should I expect?
Post-treatment, expect some temporary redness and mild swelling lasting a few days, along with possible mild itchiness.
When will I see improvements?
In a 16-patient pilot study of radiofrequency microneedling for underarm sweating, the sweating area fell by 36% at week 15 and half the patients rated their improvement at more than 50%. The chart above shows that study's course.
Will the Genius treatment completely stop my sweating?
It does not stop sweating for good: in a sham-controlled study the benefit held at one year in about half of patients, and a repeat session at a year is usual. Some may need additional sessions to maintain the effects.
How many treatments are necessary?
The number of required sessions can vary, but generally, 2-3 treatments are recommended to achieve significant improvements, depending on individual factors like sweat gland density and skin thickness.
