Both are radiofrequency microneedling: fine needles carry heat into the dermis, the deeper layer of the skin, at a set depth, the skin repairs around the treated columns, and the aim is smoother texture, softer scars and firmer skin. We provide both, so the question is which suits your skin and your aim, not which the clinic happens to own. The differences below come from the US clearance records, InMode's own figures and Lutronic's description, and the clinician makes the choice at a free consultation at Lutronic Genius RF London, 8 Devonshire Place.
Side by side, from the clearance records and the makers
- Frequency and power: Genius 460 kHz and 50 W; Morpheus8 1 MHz and 65 W.
- Needle depth: Genius up to 4 mm; Morpheus8's body tip to 7 mm, with a further millimetre of heat beyond the needle.
- Skin type: Genius has no skin-type limit in its US clearance summaries; the Morpheus8 label limits energies above 62 millijoules per pin to skin types I to IV, the pale to olive range.
- Feedback: Lutronic describes Genius as reading the skin's resistance 500 times a second and adjusting the energy as it goes. That is the manufacturer's description, and the maker's bench tests on animal tissue, reported in the 2026 clearance summary, showed coagulation zones and contraction comparable to Morpheus8's.
- Clearance: Genius is FDA-cleared in the US for dermatological and general surgical procedures for electrocoagulation, contraction and haemostasis (sealing tissue with heat, tightening it and stopping bleeding); Morpheus8 for dermatological procedures where coagulation or contraction of soft tissue, or haemostasis, is needed. Neither names a condition or an area.
Which one for which aim
- Acne scars, texture, pores, fine lines on the face: either; the clinician chooses on your skin type and the depth the scars need.
- Lower face, jawline and neck: either; most Genius patient studies were done here.
- Darker skin: either device at conservative settings; the Genius clearance summaries set no skin-type limit, Morpheus8's limits its higher energies to types I to IV, and in our practice darker skin is treated at lower energy after a patch test.
- Laxity, scars and stretch marks on the chest and décolletage, the abdomen, the arms, the thighs, the buttocks and other body areas: either; where the result you want needs heat deeper than Genius's 4 mm, Morpheus8, whose body tip reaches 7 mm.
What is the same
Numbing cream first, a course of three sessions four to six weeks apart, and a few days of redness and swelling. The same list of risks, which the US regulator set out in October 2025 for certain uses of radiofrequency microneedling devices: burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement and nerve damage. They are the reason a trained clinician sets the depth and the energy for your skin. The how it works page describes the Genius session, and the full guide compares the treatments at the clinic.
