FAQ

Genius RF microneedling questions answered

These are the questions people put to us through the form and at the consultation, grouped the way they are asked. The price comes first because it is one of the two questions asked most; the figure is given in writing at the free consultation, and the rest is answered here. Price and sessions

How much is RF microneedling in the UK?

Genius is priced per area, per session and per course, confirmed in writing at your free consultation, with a price match on any comparable written quote. Consultations and follow-up reviews are free. The written quote names the areas, the depth plan and the number of sessions.

Is 2 sessions of RF microneedling enough?

For skin quality, in our experience two sessions give a visible change and some people stop there; for acne scars, the trials used three. The manufacturer's course is three sessions four to six weeks apart, and the acne-scar trials used three. The clinician says at the consultation what your skin is likely to need.

How many areas can be done in one visit?

Usually the face, or the face and neck, in one visit; the abdomen or another body area as a separate session or on the same day if you can spare the time. Each area has its own price and its own settings.

Does the consultation cost anything?

No. Consultations and follow-up reviews are free.

Results

Is microneedling with RF worth it?

For acne scars, uneven texture, stretch marks and early laxity of the face, the neck and the body, in our clinical judgment yes: a 2025 review of 16 studies found radiofrequency microneedling likely effective for acne scars. Genius studies measured less volume under the chin and better grades for the jawline and neck. Our patients review the clinic on review.clinic, where it holds 4.9 out of 5 from 56 reviews. It is a medical procedure with real risks, which is why the skin and the energy are matched by a trained clinician.

How long do the results last?

The manufacturer describes the collagen rebuilding over the six months after treatment, and the studies measure at three to twelve months. In our experience a scar that has softened stays softened. Texture and laxity drift with age and sun, and in our practice a single maintenance session about once a year holds them. No published Genius study reports how long the result lasts, and we say so.

When will I see the result?

The surface smooths over the first weeks in our experience; the collagen rebuilds over about six months after treatment in the manufacturer's account, and the review with your photographs is three months after the course.

Is 40 too old for microneedling?

No. The Genius studies of the lower face and neck treated patients with an average age in the fifties, and in our experience the forties and fifties are where texture and early laxity respond well. Heavy laxity that hangs in a fold is more than it treats, at any age.

Pain, downtime and risks

Does RF microneedling hurt?

With numbing cream, most people describe pressure and short bursts of heat rather than pain, in our experience; in one acne-scar study that scored it, patients gave it 5.6 out of 10 on average. The days after bring redness, swelling and light crusting, not pain. The real risks are rarer and more serious: burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement and nerve damage, which the US regulator named in 2025, and which trained hands and the right energy are there to prevent.

Is there any downtime?

Redness and swelling for one to three days, sometimes five, light crusting for up to five days, no make-up on the first day, and back at work the next day in our experience.

What are the risks?

The US regulator's October 2025 communication names burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement and nerve damage among complications reported with radiofrequency microneedling devices, which is why the depth and the energy are set for your skin by a trained clinician, who goes through them with you before you consent. The Genius studies report no serious side effect. In darker skin a passing change in pigment is the most common one, and a review of 35 articles found lasting darkening in one study and lasting scarring in one.

Is RF microneedling safe for darker skin?

Genius has no skin-type limit in its US clearance summaries, and a review of 35 articles on skin types III to VI found a low risk: passing darkening in seven studies, lasting darkening in one and lasting scarring in one. In our practice darker skin is treated at lower energy after a patch test, with strict sun avoidance.

What it treats

Can RF microneedling treat the abdomen?

Yes. Genius is used on the abdomen for loose skin and stretch marks, as it is on the face, the neck, the chest and décolletage, the arms, the thighs, the buttocks and other body areas with laxity, scars or stretch marks. The abdomen page sets it out. The clinician chooses between Genius and Morpheus8, which we also provide, for the result you want, not for the area: Genius's needles reach 4 mm, and where the plan needs heat deeper than that, Morpheus8's body tip reaches 7 mm.

Does Genius treat hyperhidrosis?

Genius is not cleared for sweating and no published Genius study has treated it. For underarm sweating we recommend miraDry, which is FDA-cleared for it in the US, at our sister clinic, Sweat Hospital, and we also provide Genius for the underarms, set out on the underarm sweating page. For sweating of the face, scalp or palms, ask your GP.

What is the difference between RF microneedling and ordinary microneedling?

Ordinary microneedling makes channels and lets the surface heal. Radiofrequency microneedling adds heat at the needle tip, so the repair happens in the dermis, the deeper layer of the skin, where scars and laxity are, adding a coagulation effect at depth, which is the reason for using it on deeper scars and looser skin.

Genius or Morpheus8?

Both are radiofrequency microneedling and we provide both. Genius runs at 460 kHz and 50 W with needles to 4 mm and no skin-type limit in its US clearance summaries. Morpheus8 runs at 1 MHz and 65 W, its body tip reaches 7 mm, and its label limits the higher energies to skin types I to IV. Face, neck, body and acne scars suit either, chosen for the result you want, not the area; heat deeper than 4 mm needs Morpheus8's body tip. For darker skin, the Genius clearance summaries set no skin-type limit where Morpheus8's limits its higher energies to types I to IV, and we treat darker skin at conservative settings with either. The clinician chooses at the consultation.

Is Genius FDA approved?

It is FDA-cleared in the US, which is a clearance and not an approval, in 2018 for dermatological and general surgical procedures for electrocoagulation and haemostasis (sealing tissue with heat and stopping bleeding), and in 2026 with contraction added. The record names no condition and no area.
